Jack-A-Bee Hybrid Dogs

General Characteristics

A Jack-A-Bee is a hybrid dog developed by crossing a Jack Russell Terrier with a Beagle. As can be imagined, these dogs are short coated, highly active yet playful, loving and all round great companion dogs. In appearance this is one canine hybrid that favors both parent dogs, including the slightly muscular body, stockier, shorter legs and the highly carried wagging tail.

Colors of the Jack-A-Bee range from the typical Beagle tri-color of black, brown and white through to the bi and tri-color markings found on the Jack Russell. Generally the head is a blending of both dog types with a slightly longer and narrower muzzle than the Beagle but longer, more turned over ears than the Jack Russell. The eyes are well set and dark in color, highly active and alert with a friendly expression.

The Jack-A-Bee is a good watchdog but not generally a yappy dog unless unsocialized and untrained. They are highly intelligent and will learn quickly, making them a good potential hybrid dog for a first time owner.

What You Need To Know About Owning A Jack-A-Bee

As a puppy the Jack-A-Bee can be more active and hyper than other smaller dogs and will need routine obedience work as well as exercise. Although not a large sized dog, typically maturing at less than 25 pounds, the Jack-A-Bee does love outdoor time. Since they will chase cats, squirrels, birds and other small animals they need to be in a fenced yard.

The Jack-A-Bee is very easy to socialize and gets along well with other dogs and especially loves children. They are large enough to romp and play but small enough to be non-threatening to kids of all ages. It is important that children learn not to tease these dogs as the terrier temperament can lead to nipping if they are teased or provoked. As mentioned above, once socialization and training is completed these problems do not occur.

THE FOUR TYPES OF DOG VOMIT!

This was forwarded to me from the Border Collie banter elist - if you are the author please contact me to be credited for writing your article!

YELLOW URKA-GURKAS

Dog runs around the house and hides under furniture while making a prolonged 'uuuurka-guuurka, uuurka-guuurka' noise. (this noise is the only thing guaranteed to wake up a true dog lover who is hungover from a post dog show celebration at 3:30 am) After mad scrambling to capture the dog and drag him outside the episode ends with an indelible ten yard line of slimy yellow froth from the living rug to back door.

BLAP DISEASE

Dog exercises hard and a) eats large mouthfuls of snow(Winter Blap Disease) or b) drinks a bucket of water (Summer Blap Disease). Within 2 minutes of returning inside the dog spews out large amounts of clear slimy liquid while making a distinctive 'blap' sound and sharp percussive noise as it hits the linoleum.

GARKS

Dog suddenly clears his throat with loud and dramatic 'gggaark, gggark,' noises, generally followed by prolonged 'iiikssss', licking sounds and then loud satisfied smacking noises. There is nothing on the rug. Don't investigate, you don't want to know.

RALFS

Appropos of nothing, the dog strolls into the dining room and waits till the innocent dinner guests are all watching him. Then with a single deep gut-wrenching 'raaaalfff' disgorges the entire week's contents of his stomach on the dining room rug. VARIATION: then he eats it.

In all the above events, the dog is entirely healthy and indeed deeply pleased with himself.

Cavapoo Hybrid Dogs (Cavoodle)

Cavapoo Hybrid Dogs

The Cavapoo, a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, may also be known as a Cavoodle. This small dog usually matures at a weight of under 10 pounds and measures between about 8 and 15 inches at the shoulder. They have the wavy to curly coat associated with Poodle hybrid dog types. Some Cavapoos will be more Poodle like in coat and appearance while others may have the longer, silkier coat of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cavoodles can be a variety of colors from solid white, black or tan through to black and white, brown to red and white or even tri-colored.

The Cavapoo is a relatively low shedding hybrid dog, especially if they tend to favor the Poodle. Some may be ideal for people with dog allergies although it is important to check each dog with the person before making a decision.

What You Need To Know About Owning A Cavoodle

Hybrid breeds tend to favor both parents with regards to temperament and the Cavapoo is no exception. These small dogs are intelligent but also very connected with their owners. They are easy to train, quick to learn new tricks and very friendly dogs that really love everyone. While a great companion dog they are not suitable as guard dogs since they are simply too friendly.

The Cavoodle gets along well with other dogs and non-canine pets, especially when raised together. They make ideal apartment pets and can do well in small spaces with routine daily walks and runs. The Cavoodle tends to be very playful and needs to spend time with people on an ongoing basis. Without routine human interaction they can become anxious and engage in problematic behaviors such as barking and chewing. Separation anxiety can be a problem with this hybrid especially if there are changes in the household routine.

Bogle Dogs

The Bogle is a high energy, athletic short coated hybrid dog that is a cross between a Beagle and Boxer. Like both dog types it is a good watch dog and is also a wonderful companion dog. The Bogle is typically a fawn brown color but may also be tri-colored, black and tan or even white and brown or white and black. They have a muzzle that is shorter than the Beagle but longer than the Boxer and this often eliminates many of the respiratory issues such as snoring that is very common within the Boxer breed.

The Bogle, one of the larger hybrid breeds, can mature at weights of up to fifty pounds or more and can be twenty to twenty five inches at the shoulder. They tend to be muscular but not cobby and be ideally suited for active homes with large, fenced yards.

What You Need To Know About Owning A Bogle

The Bogle is a great family pet however they do need to have routine socialization and obedience training as do most of the purebred and canine hybrids. Like the Boxer they are very prone to jumping and leaping on guests and family when they come home, so it is essential to teach the breed to sit and greet everyone. They have a deep bark, some bay like a Beagle, so they are not always ideal dogs for living in the city or in apartments. They are a good match for families with active, older children and are highly intelligent and easy to train. Occasionally they can be somewhat strong willed and stubborn, but they are also loyal and loving.

The Bogle needs a lot of exercise per day and will stay very active all through his or her life. They do best with an intense exercise program and room to run and play on a regular basis throughout the day. They also love to play with toys and do have a significant prey instinct. They can be good companion pets for households with cats provided they are raised with cats from puppies.

Purebred and hybrid dogs

There seems to be one big, ugly, giant dog war going on today, with people fighting whether hybrid dogs like the labadoodle or purebred dogs like the border collie are the best of the lot. With so many dogs being bred today, with their breeders ranging from top professionals to back yard people who want “Fido" to have just one litter before neutering her (which usually never gets done), the words hybrid and purebred have become interchanged with designer dogs. And the average breeder or purchaser doesn’t have a clue what any of this means, unfortunately. So maybe before we go any further, we should define each word very carefully.

Purebred

First of all, and top of the line, is the purebred. This should be the one you need to breed or to purchase for a specific reason or need, when you want a breed of dog that is 100% that breed of dog. A purebred Border Bollie is a Border Collie. No Pug or American Cocker or German Shepherd is mixed with it to improve or change its looks. The lineage is pure, and you know what to expect from them in regard to their looks, temperament, what their capabilities are, and how they work. But unfortunately, the average public is buying this purebred dog without even looking at their background: they purchase a high quality border collie dog and turn around two years later, getting rid of it after it displays high temperament or chases cars, both of which have been bred into the dog for a specific purpose.

Why breed a dog to herd cattle that won’t herd or run? But on the streets, or in a family home, this would be something dangerous and not acceptable.  So the border collie hits the rescue centre, and is unfortunately one of the dog breeds most likely to do so.

Hybrid

Hybrid dogs are fast becoming the dog of the public: cockapoo, cockapoo, schnoodle, bogle, bugg,s, puggle, cavachon, labradoodle - the list is endless.  What this dog consists of is a mixture of a purebred mother and a purebred father, of two different breeds. This is a dog made to sell to the desires of the average public for a pet, a family dog, and the dog registries are adding these dogs to their registry because of this public need. Also, many purebred registries are adding hybrid registries to their list of services to show the public that the dam and sire are actual purebreds, not mixed breeds. And many hybrid breeds are bringing in higher prices as compared to the purebred breeds, due to the public need and demand for them.
