Taco Terrier Hybrid Dogs

General Characteristics

The Taco Terrier is a cross between a purebred Toy Fox Terrier and a Chihuahua or between two Taco Terriers resulting in a second generation hybrid dog. They are a toy sized canine hybrid, maturing at under about 9 inches at the shoulder and weighing in at less than 10 pounds. They tend to favor the physical attributes of  both parent breeds with a short, sleek coat, athletic body and alert, intelligent fox-like face.

Coat colors can range from white and black or brown through to solid colors, merles or brindle patterns. Most Taco Terriers will have very dark, round and slightly prominent eyes and very wide, triangular and alertly pricked ears. They have the endearing habit of tilting their heads to the side when focusing, plus they are extremely affectionate and loyal little dogs. The Taco Terrier is a good apartment dog but does need regular long brisk walks and room to run.

What You Need To Know About Owning A Taco Terrier

The Taco Terrier, like most terrier dog types, can be somewhat aggressive and prone to chasing so a fenced yard or a leash is a must. These small dogs are very intelligent and easy to train and really enjoy spending time with their owners. Housetraining can be a problem as with any of the purebred or hybrid breeds that are this small so crate training is recommended. This hybrid will get along well with other dogs, children that are mature enough to correctly and safely handle the small dog and even other household pets when raised with these conditions and consistently socialized.

Unsocialized and poorly trained Taco Terriers can be problem barkers, plus they can also become snappy and possessive. Routine training and treating the dog as a dog rather than spoiling the pet will prevent this from becoming an issue. They are not a fragile dog but will not tolerate colder temperatures or wet climates unless they can be kept indoors for all but the essential outside trips.
